A three-alarm blaze broke out in a Manhattan apartment building on Wednesday evening.
Fire Department officials said the fire started just after 6:30 p.m. at an apartment on East 90th street which was under construction. The fire spread to the top floor of that building and then to an apartment building next door.
About 35 people were evacuated from both buildings, according to fire officials.
Witnesses say one woman was taken away on a stretcher for smoke inhalation.
Moustapha Hassan, a neighbor, said he came out to see what was happening when he smelled the smoke.
"I was right by my door and I smell smoke and I saw huge fire come out from the building over there. And my daughter saw it and I just came to see what's going on," said Hassan.
Around 150 firefighters took more than an hour to bring the fire under control, according to the Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
