Four Saved in Bushwick House Fire

NY 1

A Bushwick woman and her three grandchildren were saved from a fire on Thursday, thanks to heroic efforts made by local firemen.

Firefighters from Ladder Company 112 got a call for a heavy fire on Central Avenue in Bushwick Thursday afternoon.

Amid the heavy smoke and heat, the crew found three children - ages four, two and six months - trapped on the top floor of the three-story building with their grandmother.

Firefighters removed the four through a window.

"I guess it's what every fireman lives for, being able to rescue someone,” said Rory Allen of Ladder Company 112, who had his first experience saving a life. “And you know, basically it's just glad we could be there. And this one turned out good."

The children and their grandmother were taken to Wyckoff Hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of Thursday night.
