A 14-year-old boy whose foot had gotten stuck in the rocks of a jetty about 100 yards from the northern end of Orchard Beach in the Bronx on Friday was rescued by Fire Department divers, the authorities said.
The boy and his father, whose names were not released, were walking along the jetty when he slipped between some rocks and was unable to extricate himself.
The boy's father called 911 on his cellphone at 5:49 p.m., and a team of police officers, emergency service workers, and about 60 firefighters responded, including a helicopter patrol and two firemen who donned wet suits to free the boy's leg from below.
A Fire Department spokesman, Craig Mosia, said that it took the rescue team about 20 minutes to extricate the boy.
The boy was brought to Jacobi Medical Center for observations, Mr. Mosia said, and had no injuries.
