A gas explosion in a Queens home Wednesday evening left seven people injured, one seriously.
One person was seriously injured when a natural gas explosion occurred at a three-story home in Sunnyside. Kunta Oza, 67, was taken to New York Weill-Cornell Medical Center.
Family members are struggling to find out what happened.
"All the doors are open to all the house, and they're not telling why it's taking so long to get the gas cut off," said the victim's son Joe Oza. "Nobody is saying anything. I gave them all of my info, I think they should reciprocate."
"Everything is open," added the victim's husband, Arman Oza. "The house is in a topsy-turvy state. I don't know when I can go and see with my eyes how she is doing or what exactly happened."
Fire officials say that five firefighters were among those with minor injuries. The firefighters, along with another local resident, were transported to Elmhurst Hospital.
Neighbors reported that they started smelling gas at around 3 this afternoon. Firefighters responded to the scene at around 4:30 p.m. and were at the location when the explosion happened.
About 200 people on 41st Street between 48th and 50th Avenue had to be evacuated while Con Edison workers stabilized the area.
Authorities are examining the cause of the leak.
