Bronx Firefighter Hurt Battling Blaze

A Bronx firefighter was in serious but stable condition last night after he fell while helping battle a blaze there, a fire official said.

The identity of the firefighter and his company were not released.

Firefighters responded to a fire on the first floor of 1350 Shakespeare Ave. at 4:19 p.m., the official said. The fire was under control by 4:58 p.m.

It was unclear how the firefighter fell, the official said, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. He was being treated at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.
