by JOHN ELIGON

A fire that ravaged an upper floor of a skyscraper in Lower Manhattan early yesterday morning was caused by an electrical problem, the Fire Department said, though the exact malfunction had yet to be identified.

Firefighters were called to 80 Pine Street at 12:21 a.m. The fire, which started on the 29th floor, was brought under control just over an hour later, the department said.

The department said 138 firefighters responded and 8 sustained minor injuries.
