Six firefighters injured in Inwood fire

(New York - WABC, November 2, 2007) - Firefighters remain on the scene of a three alarm fire in Upper Manhattan.

Several firefighters were hurt battling the flames in Inwood early this morning. Eyewitness News reporter Patricia Wu has the latest in Inwood.

Huge flames that shot out of a row of stores in the Inwood section of Manhattan sent six firefighters to the hospital.

The third-alarm fire started in a store at 153 Sherman Avenue just after midnight and quickly spread through the block.

Four stores were destroyed, and two others were damaged.

Six firefighters sustained injuries battling the blaze, but they were not serious.

Firefighters said partitions between the stores blocked their access to the flames. There was a partial roof collapse inside one of the businesses.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. All of the businesses were closed at the time of the blaze.
