Husband Busted in Bronx Fire Fight

Firefighters rescued a couple from a burning Bronx apartment - and then arrested the husband after he admitted igniting the blaze during a fight with his wife, officials said Saturday.

Abraham Serrano, 52, locked himself in his bedroom while arguing with his spouse in their Bruckner Blvd. home just after 6 p.m. Friday, officials said.

Serrano lit a small piece of paper and ignited other objects in the bedroom, including the mattress, officials said. Within minutes, fire and smoke poured out of the apartment's windows, prompting neighbors to call 911. Firefighters used ladders to pull Serrano and his wife to safety.

After Serrano confessed, he was arrested and charged with arson and reckless endangerment, FDNY officials said.

Serrano's wife was taken to Westchester Square Medical Center in stable condition, and four firefighters were treated at Jacobi Medical Center for minor injuries, officials said.
