Boro Park Blaze Kills Rabbi

A beloved Brooklyn rabbi and Talmudic scholar was killed yesterday in a fire at his Borough Park home.

"He was a great person. It's a shame he had to go this way," Rabbi Israel Steinberg said of his friend Rabbi Chaim Weintraub, who perished yesterday, at the age of 73.

Weintraub, who taught at the nearby Stolin Yeshiva, may have accidentally sparked the blaze himself with an unat tended cigarette, sources said.

"I lost a good friend," said Weintraub's home attendant, on the verge of tears. "God called him home."
