NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Uniformed Firefighters Association released a power point presentation, calling for advanced fire fighting equipment, Wednesday that was leaked to them by a high ranking member of the FDNY.
The presentation, from March of 2005, calls for the Department to obtain a fire helicopter, using Homeland Security funding.
The chopper would use a water cannon to shoot up to 1,000 gallons of water into high rise fires where either the standpipe is inoperable, or stairways are blocked.
UFA officials say the report was not acted on by Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta.
UFA President Stephen Cassidy says if such a helicopter was available for the Deutsche Bank building fire, the outcome could have been different.
Besides getting water on a fire, it could be used for evacuation, as well as comand and control.
Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Tokyo have such helicopters.
The plan would have called for the chopper to be used on a regional basis in the Northeast.
The Fire Department had no comments.
