Friends, family and city officials gathered this week to honor FDNY Lt. Howard Carpluk Jr. and Firefighter Michael Reilly with a plaque dedication ceremony at Engine Company 75, Ladder 33 and Battalion 19 in the Bronx.
On Aug. 27, 2006, the two lost their lives battling a three-alarm fire at 1575 Walton Ave. in the Bronx.
Carpluk, 43, was a 20-year veteran of the department, stationed at Engine Company 42.
Reilly, 25, was a probationary firefighter who had graduated from the Fire Academy just a few weeks earlier.
"When other members of the FDNY pass by Firefighter Reilly's plaque in Engine 75 and Lt. Carpluk's plaque in Engine 42, those who never had a chance to meet them will know of their extraordinary service to our city," said Mayor Bloomberg, who attended the ceremony with Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta.
