The foundation created to memorialize the World Trade Center attacks is going national and changing its name, logo and Web site.

The World Trade Center Memorial Foundation said yesterday it would be now known as the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center in order to emphasize that the 2001 terrorist attacks were a national tragedy.

The new approach includes a broader fund-raising appeal, a traveling exhibition that pays tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11 and the new Web site, www.national911 memorial.org.

The exhibition tour is expected to begin in Columbia, S.C., on Sept. 10th and then head to Raleigh, N.C., Norfolk, Va., Pittsburgh, Pa., Charleston, W. Va., Cincinnati, Ohio, and other cities.

"What happened on September 11th wasn't just an attack on New York. It was an attack on our nation and our way of life," said Mayor Bloomberg, who is chairman of the foundation.

he not-for-profit organization has raised $300 million towards its goal of $350 million, officials said.
