Firefighters rescued a father-and-son construction team from a 10-foot-deep hole in Midtown yesterday after the sidewalk the pair was jackhammering suddenly collapsed.

Santiago Dutan, 27, and his father Jose, 51, escaped with minor injuries after being trapped in the hole on 36th Street, between Sixth and Seventh avenues, for about 20 minutes, firefighters said.

FDNY Battalion 9 Chief John Joyce said Jose and Santiago - hardhats for a private firm - were working on a 5-by-4-foot concrete slab about 1:30 p.m. when it suddenly gave way.

He said the sidewalk was still falling apart when firefighters went into the hole and rescued the shaken pair.

The duo was taken to Bellevue Hospital with bumps and bruises, Joyce said.

Witness Shameya Muniz, 20, said she was on her way to a job interview when she saw the sidewalk give way.

By the time I took a second look, the whole sidewalk had collapsed over there," Muniz said.

"I didn't even hear a scream," she said.
