People living along the East Side woke up to smoke pouring out of 25 Sutton Place South. The force of this fire was so intense that it blew out all of the windows in apartment 10A. At noon, crews were out of the sidewalks at Sutton Place cleaning up all of the glass and ashes that covered the sidewark. Annette Barlow lived in 10A and she was a heavy-smoker. Investigators say that may have been the 95-year-old's fatal mistake. Firefighters rushed to the luxury high-rise at about 7:15 a.m. Annette Barlow was in trouble. She lived alone in apartment 10A. By the time firefighters got to here, she was found dead in her bedroom. The fire did not spread past her apartment, although the smoke did. Authorities didn't have to evacuate tenants although two police officers did suffer from smoke inhalation. Five firefighters also had to be treated for minor injuries. Investigators said there are smoke detectors throughout the building and in the apartments. There has been no official word on what caused this fire.
