Firefighters Battle Fatal Brooklyn Fire

(1010 WINS) NEW YORK One person died and three people were hurt in a fire in a high-rise apartment building in Brooklyn early Friday, authorities said.

The blaze was reported just after 3:20 a.m. on the seventh floor of the 21-story building, part of the Wyckoff Gardens public housing complex in the Cobble Hill neighborhood, authorities said.

Police said one person died at New York Weill-Cornell Medical Center, and two others were hospitalized in critical but stable condition there.

A fourth person was in stable condition at another hospital, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries, according to Firefighter Susan Blake, a fire department spokeswoman.

The cause of the blaze, which was under control at about 3:48 a.m., was under investigation, Blaze said.
