Manhattan Street Renamed To Honor Firefighter Killed On 9/11

NY 1

Politicians, firefighters and friends of one of New York’s Bravest who died in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center gathered in Manhattan Friday to honor him.

State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and the United Jewish Council paid tribute to Firefighter Robert Foti by naming a street after him on the Lower East Side, where he lived. Cherry Street will now also be known as Firefighter Robert Joseph Foti Way.

"We are saddened by the fact that we have to do this memorial, but we are proud that we can properly memorialize one of New York’s heroes," said Silver.

Foti's family was also presented with a duplicate street sign.
