The widows and children of firefighters and police officers killed in the line of duty enjoyed a picnic at Shea Stadium on a beautiful spring day Tuesday. The 20th annual New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund picnic included food and games, and the kids got autographs from some Mets players. “It does lift our spirits and lift our hearts, and I just want to thank everyone,” said Robyn Freund, whose husband was killed in the World Trade Center attack. “And never forget 9/11. Never forget the brave men who lost their lives.” The New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund is a non-profit organization established in 1985 to raise money and provide support to the families of police and firefighters, as well as Port Authority and EMS workers, killed in the line of duty. "You can see the bonding that that takes place among the families that come here, and you can see them every year,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. “They get bigger and stronger. It's just a happy, happy occasion.”
