A firehouse in Midtown officially reopened Saturday after more than a year of renovations. Members of Engine Company 1 and Ladder 24 were in full dress to rededicate the firehouse to all those who have served there. “It was also in memory of those members who passed away on 9/11 and also former and present members, to give them something to be proud of and feel part of the company,” said Ciro J. Napolitano of the FDNY. The firehouse on West 31st Street was closed almost a year-and-a-half ago to renovate it. “It feels great,” said Harold Meyers, the chief of Ladder 24. “This is where we are. We belong here. The city renovated the firehouse. They did a magnificent job. It’s probably the nicest firehouse in the city. It’s really nice to be back.” The FDNY says this particular firehouse is important because it is near both Penn Station and Times Square. Officials may use it as a command post when the Republican National Convention comes to Madison Square Garden at the end of August.
