A police officer and firefighter were hospitalized after responding to a two-alarm fire at a restaurant in Queens Saturday.

The fire started in the kitchen of the Scobee Diner on Northern Boulevard and Little Neck Road shortly after 12:30 p.m. Customers say they smelled smoke, but no one seemed to know where it was coming from.

“They could not see a fire in the kitchen,” said one woman. “The staff was saying, ‘What’s happening? What’s happening?’ They couldn't figure it out.”

The restaurant was eventually evacuated. Firefighters climbed on to the roof to battle the blaze and put it out a few hours later.

A firefighter and a police officer were hospitalized, both with minor back injuries
