Victims of one of the worst fires in New York City History will be remembered Thursday.

The Fire Department and members of the labor union UNITE will mark the 93rd anniversary of the fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in Greenwich Village, which killed 146 workers, mostly immigrant women.

The fire prompted a broad movement to eliminate sweatshops and improve safety conditions for workers.

Last year, site of the tragedy, at Washington Place and Greene Street, was declared a landmark.

Thursday is also the anniversary of a tragic fire in the Bronx. Fourteen years ago, a blaze at the Happy Land Social Club claimed 87 lives. The victims will be remembered at a special mass on Sunday at the St. Thomas of Aquino Church in the Bronx.
