STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- One person was injured in a blaze that ignited on the fifth floor of an 8-story apartment building in West Brighton early Sunday morning, according to an FDNY spokesman.

Firefighters were called to 810 Henderson Ave. just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning; they put the fire under control by 4:10 a.m., the spokesman said.

The apartment building occupant who was injured was treated by emergency workers at the scene, but refused further medical attention, said the FDNY spokesman.

The fire, which ignited in apartment 5E, did not spread to neighboring units, the spokesman said.

The Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
