NEW YORK - At least a dozen injuries have been reported at the scene of a six alarm fire in the East Village this morning.

The FDNY says flames broke out just after 2 a.m. on the first floor of a five-story building located at 188 First Avenue.

Witnesses at the scene tell NY1 it appears the fire started on the first floor of the building which housed a sushi restaurant.

Ten firefighters and two civilians are among the injured.

All of the injuries are said to be minor.

Residents in the buildings on both sides of the fire were evacuated.

The Red Cross says six families were displaced by the fire.

Due to the smoke and traffic delays in the area, PS19 Asher Levy Campus and East Side Community HS are closed for the day.
