No one was injured in the early-morning collapse.
ASTORIA, NY — Part of a commercial building in Astoria collapsed early Wednesday morning, officials said. No one was hurt in the incident, which happened around 4 a.m. at 48-01 25th Ave., according to FDNY and Department of Buildings officials.
DOB inspectors and engineers found the front section of the building, including its roof, collapsed onto the sidewalk and into the building itself, agency spokesman Andrew Rudansky said.
The building isn't at risk of any further collapse, but the DOB ordered it vacated and slapped the owner with a violation for failing to maintain it, Rudansky said.
The property's owners have hired a contractor and an engineer to partially demolish the collapsed portion, remove debris and put up a construction fence around the affected section, Rudansky said.
