Firefighters rescued a terrified Brooklyn woman from her burning apartment yesterday after she stood in a window clutching her 3-year-old son and screaming for help. Fire had ripped through the living room of her sixth-floor home on Glenwood Road in Canarsie about 6 a.m., forcing 31-year-old Sandra Ramos and other relatives into a back bedroom. "Help me! Help my baby!" Ramos screamed, said Ruth Hinds, 40, who was outside walking her dog. "She was crying hysterically." As firefighters assigned to Engine 257 doused the flames, rescuers from Ladders 170 and 174 raced in to search for possible victims. They found Ramos and at least two of her four children in the bedroom. Firefighter Angelo Covais of Ladder 170 emerged from the burning apartment carrying 3-year-old Joshua. Other firefighters saved his 13-year-old sister and Ramos. Battalion Chief Ed Ferrier credited Ramos for seeking refuge in the bedroom, which prevented them from getting burned. "I was glad to see them come out safely," said Ferrier, incident commander at the blaze. Ramos and the two children were treated for smoke inhalation at Brookdale University Hospital and released. The cause of the fire was under investigation yesterday. Relatives said the fire was the second this year for Ramos. Earlier this year, she had a fire at a different Brooklyn apartment that left her in a shelter. "My sister lost everything," said Nellie Tores. "She cried for months."
