The sacrifice and selfless courage of 9/11's fallen heroes will once again be honored during the 17th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk in Manhattn on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at 9:30 a.m.
An expected 30,000 participants will retrace the final footsteps of Stephen Siller, the late FDNY firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice during his heroic efforts to rescue survivors of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. The annual event has become an iconic tribute to the 343 firefighters, and all first responders, who selflessly laid down their lives on that tragic day.
Runners from across the globe, and as far away as England, Australia, Belize, Germany, Denmark, France, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal and Romania are expected to arrive in New York City to participate in the event.
In addition to the run, other event highlights will include:
A post-run BBQ, with free food and drinks Run participants will receive an official event t-shirt (first-come, first-serve) Free concert during the post-run party featuring Darryl Worley and West Point's Benny Havens Band Individuals must have registered for the run and be wearing a bib to enter the post-run BBQ and concert "Every year, this event gets bigger and bigger -- and it is simply incredible to see how much this event has grown since we started it," said Frank Siller, one of Stephen's siblings and chairman and CEO of the Foundation. "This run means so much to the families and friends of those who selflessly gave their lives to help others on that day. We are so proud to have the opportunity to honor Stephen and all of his firefighter brothers in this special way and it wouldn't be possible without the help of volunteers, donations and dedication."
The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk is open to the public. Registration is required and participants can visit the following link for more information on how to run/walk or volunteer. Online registration for the run will remain open until September 29 at 11:59 p.m. Participants are encouraged to create their own "T2T" fundraising page online, which allows them to: * Share their personal or team pages via social media -- or encourage friends and family to help them reach their fundraising goals via email.
* Fundraise for an opportunity to be eligible for exclusive incentives like a portable wireless Bluetooth speaker, a Nike cap, a fleece hoodie or a wind jacket based on the amount fundraised. Participants can also register in-person the day of the run.
Run day registration will take place at the IKEA parking lot in Brooklyn between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Participants may purchase timing chips online only through Monday, Sept. 24. From Tuesday, Sept. 25 to Saturday, Sept. 29, a timing chip can only be obtained in person at any registration site. Timing chips are not available to those registering on the day of the event.
