NEW YORK CITY - Today, the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) announced three key endorsements in statewide elections in 2018: Congressman Joe Crowley (D-14), Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and Chair of the Queens County Democratic Party, as well as Staten Island Congressman Dan Donovan (R-11), and New York State Senator Diane Savino (D-23).
"Congressman Crowley has always been a staunch ally for the men and women who don the uniform and help keep New Yorkers safe," said UFA President Gerard Fitzgerald. "The Uniformed Firefighters Association is proud to endorse Congressman Crowley and know he'll continue to fight for all Americans in Congress."
"Since his election in 2015, Congressman Donovan has stood by our members who put their lives on the line every day to protect the hardworking citizens of Staten Island," said Eric Bischoff, Staten Island Borough Trustee for the UFA. "As he runs for reelection, we're proud to stand behind him and trust he'll continue to do the right thing on the Hill."
The UFA's endorsements of Congressmen Crowley came days before UFA President Gerard Fitzgerald formally endorsed State Senator Diane Savino and Staten Island Congressman Dan Donovan for re-election. Last Friday, Fitzgerald joined James LeMonda, President of the UFOA, as well as UFOA and UFA members, in front of Engine 161/Ladder 81 in Staten Island in support of Senator Savino's campaign. On Saturday, Fitzgerald and UFA members stood in from of Engine 165/Ladder 85, also in Staten Island to endorse Congressman Donovan's bid for re-election.
The New York primary takes place tomorrow, June 26th, 2018.
"These three individuals have much in common - unwavering support for our members in uniform, dedication to the safety of all the hardworking men and women in this city, and a history of taking on the tough political battles to get New Yorkers the support they deserve," UFA President Gerard Fitzgerald added. "With the New York primary around the corner, we're confident that Congressman Crowley, Congressman Donovan, and State Senator Savino will keep up the fight both in New York and nationwide."
The UFA previously endorsed Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-12) for re-election, touting her as a driving force during the reauthorization of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act of 2015.
