A night of fishing turned into a dramatic rescue last night when two men tumbled off a Brooklyn pier and two others, including an off-duty police captain, dived in to save them, authorities said. One victim, an unidentified homeless man, later died at a hospital. The captain of the 69th Precinct, Daniel Carione, and a fellow fisherman leaped into the waters off the Canarsie Pier after the two men fell about 8:10 p.m., cops said. Fisherman Raymond Baughn, 31, of Brooklyn, and the homeless man were wrestling when they fell off the pier at Rockaway Parkway, sources said. Fisherman Linton Brown, 23 of Brooklyn, jumped in first, followed by Carione, who grabbed the fisherman and held onto the pier until firefighters from Ladder 170 arrived, officials said. Baughn was taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was in stable condition. Carione was in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital. Brown declined aid. More than an hour later, the homeless man was reeled in by the NYPD's harbor unit and taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where he later died, police said.
