STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Almost 3,500 are currently without power on Staten Island, according to the Con Edison online outage map.
The outages, which are affecting 3,464 residents, span across the borough from St. George on the North Shore to Tottenville on the South Shore.
However, over 90 percent of the outages are confined to Eltingville, Bay Terrace, Oakwood, New Dorp and Lighthouse Hill.
An apparent transformer explosion at Victory Boulevard and Morani Street in Bulls Head may be to blame for approximately 150 of the current outages.
Victory Boulevard is closed in both directions at the location, with FDNY and NYPD on the scene.
"It sounded like two blasts," said one resident. "Live wires are down."
Con Ed anticipates that power will be restored to the affected areas by 5 p.m.
