A Hell’s Kitchen dumpster fire spread to a building, where it raged for hours Sunday night, authorities and witnesses said.
The fire, which started at about 9:10 p.m., raced into the second floor of a four-story building on W. 48th St. near 11th Ave., FDNY officials said.
No injuries were reported as of early Monday.
The building houses the Stage 48 nightclub, though the venue was closed Sunday night.
The fire grew to three alarms shortly after 10:20 p.m., with nearly 140 firefighters responding to bring the flames under control by 11:40 p.m.
Ashley Arias, 25, and Ron Brown, 36, were in the 16th-floor lounge at the INK 48 club across the street when they saw smoke and then flames.
“We were right next to each other, just enjoying, having a good time,” Arias said. “And then there were just billows and billows of black smoke. We were like, ‘That doesn’t seem normal.’ So we went to the edge and saw this huge fire. So I just hope everyone is OK.”
Brown said he was startled by the smoke rising from below him.
“There was a moment of, ‘Oh s--t, something’s on fire!’” he said. “And honestly, when you’re up that high on a rooftop and you see smoke rising from beneath you, you don’t know where it’s coming from, so that was scary.”
