STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- The collapse of a warehouse behind the former H.S. Farrell Lumber in Great Kills is imminent, according to a FDNY spokeswoman.
A 50-foot-section of wall had seemingly split at the rear corner of the structure on Brower Court, according to the spokeswoman, which is located directly behind the former storefront at 3987 Amboy Road.
The structure was vacant when emergency personnel arrived, and no injuries were reported, she said.
The Buildings department was on scene assessing the damage, as of about 12:20 p.m., according to emergency transmissions. Google Maps satellite images show a gaping hole in the roof of the unstable warehouse building.
The Amboy Road storefront has been an eyesore since it was shuttered and sold by the owners in 2002. The plan at the time was to have the property, which included rear warehouse buildings fronting Brower Court, developed for condominiums.
