STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Two people suffered serious injuries Monday morning after a car fire broke out on the Staten Island Expressway.

One person was transported to Richmond University Medical Center, and the other was brought to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, a spokesman for the FDNY said.

Both were in stable condition, he said.

The incident occurred near the eastbound Victory Boulevard exit around 1:08 a.m., the spokesman said.

A witness, who wished to only be identified as "DeLo," provided the Advance with video of the incident.

He said he saw police and a team of Con Edison workers help the people get out of the car, and make sure no other traffic was affected by the blaze.

The FDNY spokesman said the situation was brought under control by 2:07 a.m.
