FDNY Battles House Fire in Westerleigh

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The FDNY battled a house fire in Westerleigh on Friday afternoon.

The fire started at approximately 12:51 p.m. at 61 Watchogue Road, and quickly went to two alarms, according to the FDNY.

According to the Fire Department, the fire originated in the basement of the two-story dwelling and spread to the first floor, second floor and attic.

More than 20 emergency vehicles responded to the scene, blocking the street back to its intersection with Victory Boulevard. Watchogue Road was closed at Victory as a result.

As of 1:15 p.m., the fire appeared to be knocked down, according to the FDNY.

No initial injuries were reported in the incident, the FDNY said.
