200 Firefighters Respond to Large Fire in Elmhurst Building, 2 Injured

ELMHURST, Queens (WABC) -- More than 200 firefighters responded to a five-alarm building fire in Elmhurst, Queens, on Tuesday night.

The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. between the roof and ceiling of the seven-story building on 94th Street.

Two firefighters were seriously injured. Their injuries are non-life threatening.

The top two floors of the 112 unit apartment building were badly damaged.

The fire department evacuated the entire building as a precaution. It's not yet known how many people, if any, will be let back in.

The Red Cross set up a reception center for affected residents at PS 13 on 94th Street in Flushing.
