On Saturday, April 8th, the United Women Firefighters and the Vulcan Society will host an obstacle race and festival at St. Mary's Park, 450 St. Ann's Ave, Bronx, NY. Race registration is at 9 AM, and the festival is from 9am-5pm. The obstacles in the 5k race will be firefighter themed. Firefighter candidates can file for the exam on site and receive a discount on the race. Festival will feature learn CPR, fire safety, free obstacle course and games for kids and lots of giveaways. On Tuesday, April 18th at 1100 hours, a memorial mass will be held honoring the memory of Lieutenant Richard A. Nappi, E-237, who made the supreme sacrifice on April 16, 2012. The mass will take place at Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompeii Church located at 225 Seigel Street, Brooklyn, NY. All off-duty members and their families are invited to attend. Members are requested to attend in dress uniform.

The Holy Name Society, Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island, will hold a Higher Education Scholarship Drawing at the annual Communion Breakfast on April 30th. The Higher Education Scholarships consist of two (2), $1500.00 awards, payable to any college or trade school of the winners' choice. Members must be in good standing in this society and the winners are in their twelfth year of education. Members must be present at the breakfast to win and have submitted an application. Applications can be obtained from Scholarship Chairman, William P. On Saturday, April 22nd, at 1000 hours, the Lt. John G. Bellew Memorial 5K run will be held at the Pearl River Volunteer Firehouse, 58 Central Avenue, Pearl River, NY. Registration fee is $30 for adults, $15 for children under 12. Post-race party includes food, beverage and entertainment. All proceeds go to the Lt. John G. Bellew Scholarship Fund.
