Steve Cassidy to become Executive Director of NYC Fire Pension Fund

Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro today announced the appointment of Stephen Cassidy as Executive Director of the New York City Fire Pension Fund - a new position established by the approval of "corpus" funding by the State legislature. Corpus funding authorizes the Fire Pension Fund, currently part of the FDNY, to be spun off as a separate entity from the Fire Department.

Both the UFA & UFOA have sought corpus funding for many years, so that the Fire Pension receives the same treatment that the four other NYC Pension funds currently enjoy. Corpus funding will provide better service for our members as they go through the retirement process.

UFA President Steve Cassidy will resign his position in order to accept this newly created administrative post.

In accordance with the Uniformed Firefighters Association constitution, following Steve Cassidy stepping down as union president, UFA Vice President James Slevin will assume the duties as President for the remainder of the term. The current term of office concludes on April 30, 2017 with elections scheduled for February/March 2017.

Additional appointments will be made by interim President Slevin & UFA executive board to fill open positions.

More information to follow on upcoming 65-2's.

Fraternally,

Stephen J. Cassidy
