New York's Bravest were the city's proudest pedalers yesterday as 35 firefighters completed a grueling 42-day biking trek across the United States. Roars of wild applause greeted the super smoke-eaters as they crossed the finish line at Battery Park, just after 9:30 a.m. The 3,336-mile, 13-state ride raised more than $100,000 for the Widows' and Children's Fund, which helps families of firefighters killed in the line of duty. Riding eight hours a day, the group slept in firehouses and got support from firefighters who often biked with them. "The trip was simply amazing and it was very emotional when we reached New York," said Joshua Gallo, of Engine 258 in Queens. "We were treated like celebrities wherever we went." n
