(The Bronx - WABC) His body was broken but his spirit remained strong. Hero firefighter Jeffrey Cool was released from the hospital Friday morning, just weeks after a jump from a burning building in the Bronx nearly cost him his life. Eyewitness News reporter Lisa Colagrassi has the story from St. Barnabus Hospital in the Tremont section of the Bronx. The FDNY came out to support their injured colleague, and also lots of family and friends came to support him. Thirty-seven year-old Jeffrey Cool suffered severe injuries when he jumped out of a fourth floor window. Today he is on the road to recovery. Flanked by FDNY brothers, Jeffrey Cool was wheeled out of St. Barnabus Hospital on a stretcher into a waiting ambulance. Cool was one of four firefighters critically injured after jumping out of a burning building last month. Two firefighters died. His wife Jill was overjoyed. Jill Cool, Firefighter's Wife: "This is a great day okay. I just want to thank everybody for giving me my husband back. The EMS, the paramedics, the emergency room, the doctors, the nurses, the fire department is exceptional. I can't put it into words really - today is a great day." Captain Christopher King, FDNY: "It's just a great day for the Rescue 3 and a great day for the New York City Fire Department." Cool suffered a broken pelvis and other internal injuries. He is on his way to the Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw for rehabilitation. It was a personal safety rope that probably saved the lives of Jeffrey Cool and fellow firefighter Joseph DiBernardo. That is not standard issue and the union right now is working with the department - they want ropes and harnesses for every firefighter in the city.
