Union Issues, Events & Benefits

DETAILING OF FIREFIGHTERS BECAUSE OF LINE-OF-DUTY INJURIES
The UFA is aware of an upcoming order which will detail firefighters, who have missed work because of on-duty injuries, to less busy companies. This is unacceptable and will be challenged aggressively by us. If you may be aggrieved by this order and wish to participate in the grievance and court case which will be filed, please contact your borough Trustee.

DEPARTMENT QUESTIONING OF FIRE SCENE OPERATIONS
Certain fires and incidents have prompted Department officials to question companies who worked at the scene. Although these officials are claiming that they “are not looking to hurt anyone”, it may be beyond their powers to prevent it. As usual, you must respond to questioning pertaining to your actions in the performance of your duties. If questioning seems to change direction, whereby you feel uncomfortable, cease the interview and call your union representative ASAP. Do NOT repeat hearsay. If you were not at the scene or (even if you were there, but) did not personally witness an occurrence - then don’t give a report on it. Repeating a story third hand may be dangerous. If you didn’t see it - keep quiet!

A CHANCE TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE WIDOWS & CHILDREN
Ronzoni is sponsoring a ”Best Recipe Pasta Contest” to any and all firehouse cooks. Simply write down the recipe for your favorite pasta dish and be ready to prepare it if you win. The eve of the NYC Marathon is the Ronzoni pasta party when the favorite dishes are served. Five firefighters will win prizes and $1,000 will be donated to the UFA Widow’s & Children Fund and the Burn Center Foundation in your name. Ronzoni will be contributing a total of $10,000 to those charities. All those chefs of the future give it up for a good cause! Have some fun, raise some money and get involved.
