NY 1 - October 13, 2011Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano were among those paying tribute at the annual FDNY Memorial Day ceremony Wednesday. It was held at the fireman's monument at 100th Street and Riverside Drive.
"There is never an easy way to express the love and admiration that we have for our bravest. This day of remembrances is just one way to show their families and loved ones that we will never forget," said Bloomberg.
"Today we remember with pride and with sadness those who are no longer with us, but we carry them in our hearts and they serve as our inspiration to try harder, to do better in protecting and serving every New Yorker and all who live, work, and visit here," said Cassano.
The honorees this year included six firefighters, one EMT, and two paramedics.
