OUR UNION
will be participating in the Labor Day Parade on September 9th, 2000. We the board would like your support in making this a great event. So it’s time to turn out and make a showing for our first Labor Day Parade in a very long time. It’s time to join forces with all the other Unions and March up Fifth Avenue letting the City know we want a fair and equitable raise. Something that we all deserve A Raise. We will be marching from West 46th Street and Fifth Avenue at 12:30. Just wear your company shirt to the parade. This is what being a Union is all about so join us for our Labor Day parade that will not be forgotten. Let’s see five members from each house attend the parade. Delegates it’s time to get the brothers in the house involved let’s show that all the unions in this City are together and fighting for the same thing. There will be a limited number of joint Fire/Police Uniformed Forces Coalition Logo Tee Shirts handed out to marchers.

TPR ERRORS & LACK OF JOURNAL ENTRIES LEADING TO LOSS OF EARNED MONEY
As fiscal auditors scour your company journals and compare them with filed TPRs, members are being noted for TPR marks that do not coincide with any journal entries (or an incorrect journal entry). When this happens, the member automatically has his/her paycheck reduced by the discrepancy amount. We believe this is leading to a loss of legitimate earnings in many cases. It is incumbent upon each member to verify his TPR marks for every pay
period, even if it is done after the fact. For overtime tours, details, duty time, wash up time, etc., please make certain that the proper entry is also made in the company journal. Try to establish some regular routine for cross checking TPR marks and journal entries. Make it a habit of performing this function systematically, like immediately following company drill - or when you pick up your paycheck (or stub) - or the first of every month. Get the idea? Be responsible for your own pay and don’t let the City get off cheap because of incomplete paperwork.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
We are pleased to report that on Friday, August 23rd, Governor George Pataki signed into law two very important pieces of legislation.

Final Average Salary - effective July 1, 2000 all active firefighters will be given the option of using either the best 3 consecutive year average or the final 12 month calculation, whichever is greater.

2 1/2% Increase in ITHP - effective October 1, 2000 all firefighters will begin to receive an additional 2 pay until our next collective bargaining agreement is concluded.

STOP SENDING IN ITHP WAIVER FORMS FOR NEWLY LEGISLATED BENEFIT
A bad rumor has surfaced in the field leading to the misconception that one must file an ITHP waiver form to receive the recently legislated pension enhancement of an additional 2 1/2% ITHP by the City. This is absolutely NOT TRUE. No paperwork by the member is required at all to continue his/her status quo. This benefit will begin at the appropriate time (not before October 1, 2000) all by itself. The false information which circulated is leading to excessive deductions for some members, prompting confused inquiries. Please spread the word and post a notice at your company file cabinets or office desk.
