COMMUNITY MAYORS TRIP TO CONEY ISLAND AQUARIUM - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Community Mayors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, an organization devoted to assisting handicapped and disabled children, will be hosting their annual “Day at the N.Y. Aquarium†in Coney Island, on Wednesday, October 4th. This day of sea fun is in search of volunteers who can meet in front of the Aquarium on Surf Avenue at 9:00 a.m. Many of these children are in wheelchairs and need assistance on and off the buses, and to help them get around while visiting and touring the aquarium. Back To Top MUSEUM VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If you have an interest in the history of the fire service in New York City and would like to share your interest and experiences, the New York City Fire Museum is looking for volunteers who are retired from the Department to do historical tours of the Museum. The new people would be trained by our current museum volunteers, who are also retired New York City Firefighters. These volunteers do the history section of tours for groups, especially school and day camp tours (the fire safety segment of these tours is always presented by active firefighters from the FDNY Education Unit). Volunteers also often work in the museum just answering questions and explaining the equipment for the general public when there are no scheduled tours. Most put in 4 or 5 hours per week, coming in at a particular time each week. The museum is located in the former quarters of Engine 30 at 278 Spring Street in Manhattan. It is open on Tuesday through Sunday. Most of our retired firefighter volunteers work during the week, but some put in regular shifts on weekends as well. If you would like to find out more about the museum or volunteering please call the director, Geoff Giglierano, at 212-691-1303. Back To Top Fraternally, WILLIAM F.
