IAFF $10,000 EXPENSE CHECK The IAFF has delivered a $10,000 Expense Support Check for each of the 343 deceased or missing firefighters and fire officers. This money is to assist families in paying any immediate bills and is not to be considered a death benefit. Checks were distributed to company representatives at a special meeting at the UFA office for all affected companies. Back To Top PENSION AND BENEFITS Any families who have experienced some form of closure, through funeral or memorial masses, may begin the required pension/benefit paperwork process. Companies have done an excellent job reaching out to their affected families to assist them in a time of great need. Every company should have a contact person dealing with each family to accompany them to Pier 94, the site, etc. The UFA will be forming small group sessions at convenient locations in the City and suburbs for our widows to meet with board members, F.D. pensions, counseling unit, financial advisor, and Social Security. One site - one time, to ease the burden of confusing paperwork. All services are free. We must coordinate this effort, due to the overwhelming size of this group. Back To Top OVERTIME Keep track of your work hours and be sure to check TPR codes for proper overtime. The Department is recording overtime by the fairest way possible but if there is a discrepancy, record all details and the UFA will examine the problem at a later date. Back To Top REGULAR OCTOBER UNION MEETING POSTPONED The regularly scheduled October 11th general membership union meeting has been postponed until further notice. Back To Top CITY HEALTH PLAN TRANSFER PERIOD EXTENDED The transfer period to file an EB-01 for switching your basic City Health plan or to add an available rider has been extended from October 31st until Thursday, November 15th. Back To Top WATCH FOR JOINT UFA/UFOA MEMBER SUPPORT UPDATES This informative bulletin is being produced by the IAFF, with input from both NYC locals. It is meant to supplement our regular communication bulletins, since regular office operations have been disrupted and will continue to be difficult in the coming weeks. Please post and read a Member Support Bulletins. Back To Top CODE 3 COLLECTIBLES OFFERS UP ALL PROCEEDS FOR OCTOBER Code 3 Collectibles has been manufacturing the finest replica models of FDNY apparatus available on the market. Code 3 also is interested in making a World Trade Center commemorative product, much like they did for our brothers in Worcester, Mass. Their website is www.code3.net. Back To Top PIER 94 A WORTHWHILE TRIP Various agencies like Red Cross, Crime Victims Board, etc, have all set up shop in one location. The Pier 94 experience has been revamped as of last Thursday (9/27) and is now a positive trip for families ready to go there. A larger group of fire personnel can now adequately handle all visiting families with expediting paperwork and receiving immediate financial assistance. Pier 94 may not be for everyone at this time, depending on frame of mind. It is not mandatory, but if you go, several thousand dollars of financial aid may be processed and placed in your hand. The process can take up to four hours to complete and arrival should be any time between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Family members visiting the site MUST bring certain documentation with them, or else they will create unnecessary additional stress. Bring originals and FDNY liaisons will make photo copies so you can leave with same originals. You NEED: ID card for missing member if you have it; Social Security number for member, spouse, children; marriage license; birth certificate for missing member, spouse, children; pay stubs - especially one with overtime on it; proof of second job or employment for missing member; W-2 forms for last year; monthly bills - mortgage, rent, auto loan, utility bills, credit card bills, grocery bills, doctor bills, prescriptions, school bills, school loans, child care bills, gasoline, EZ-Pass & Tolls; pay stub for wife to prove employment; show proof for benefits to family of disabled vet; Social Security to be filled out for children only! Back To Top CONTINUED PARTICIPATION AT SERVICES IS IMPERATIVE Thank you again for your tremendous support by attending wakes, funerals, and memorial services. This has been made so much more important due to the fact that we have multiple services every day that make large showings virtually impossible - like this Saturday with over 20 services. Your executive board can not be at every event, but we do our best to show the proper respect to fallen LOD brothers. Every chance you get, you should thank the retirees, volunteer firefighters, out-of- state firefighters, and police officers who are taking the time. to attend these services. Don't forget about where all these caissons and other apparatus come from. Back To Top Fraternally, WILLIAM F. MIRRO Recording Secretary, KEVIN E. GALLAGHER President
