Union Issues, Events & Benefits

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS WHO PARTICIPATED
IN THE RESCUE/RECOVERY AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER SITE
PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS

Any firefighter who believes he suffered an injury while working at the Trade Center site because of the failure of the City to provide proper protective respiratory devices, must individually file a Notice of Claim to protect his/her legal rights against the City. THERE IS NO “CLASS ACTION” NOTICE OF CLAIM. If you think you suffered a respiratory injury, you must contact an attorney IMMEDIATELY. Our general counsel, MICHAEL N. BLOCK, ESQ., and his firm, SULLIVAN PAPAIN BLOCK McGRATH & CANNAVO, P.C., are available to help you. They may be reached at (212) 732-9000 or (212) 732-9029.

ATTENDANCE AT LINE OF DUTY SERVICES
There appears to be a significant decline in attendance at line of duty funerals by the FDNY rank and file. Remind all members that they must make every reasonable attempt to turn out for the remaining 15 scheduled services. About 30 families are still waiting for recovery before scheduling for their loved one. This road has taken an unbelievable mental and physical toll on all members and their families, but the end is in sight. We thank you for your sacrifice and efforts at providing this respect to our fallen comrades. Stand tall and be a proud member of the FDNY.

There is also a secured trailer in the parking area with 24 hour National Guard security. All hot food and beverages are free to World Trade Center workers. For firefighters and their families, not just those missing, interested in getting out of New York City for a few days. The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce has a list of properties available that have been donated by the homeowners. You can stay as long as you need. They also have restaurants willing to give free breakfast and lunch to families. All we ask is that you leave the house in a clean and orderly condition for the next family. This includes a thorough cleaning of the bathroom and kitchen. You may have to bring your own sheets and towels, etc. Also as part of this program we ask you to write a personal thank you to the owner of the property, which can be left in the home, or returned with the keys. Just call Ellen or Michelle at Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce at 800-292-6372, extension 0. Mention the LBI Getaway and they will take all the information, and assign you a property.
