Spring Forward: A Celebration Of Our Heroes
The Center for Jewish History (CJH) and Yeshiva University Museum will present a Community Day for the families of local Firefighters, Police, and EMS workers and Manhattan families of civilian victims. Their mission is to provide a day of fun and creativity for families who have been affected by the September 11 tragedy. The theme of the day will reflect the start of Spring and the related ideas of growth and rebirth. It will be held on Sunday, March 3rd from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at their comfortable headquarters - 15 West 16th Street, NYC. The CJH has a 125,000 square foot facility that includes a 247 seat auditorium, exhibition spaces and a large interior hall. The event is free to all.

'Spring Forward” is scheduled to include a performance by the Xavier High School jazz band - the Blue Night Band. (Xavier High School, whose students, parents and alumni were particularly affected by September 11, is located across the street from the Center). Guided exhibition tours, face painting and arts and crafts workshops will be conducted throughout the day for all ages. An interactive exhibition - Traders to Tartary: From Saxony to the Caspian Sea - invites children to dress in the costume of traders who crisscrossed Europe and Asia from the Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution. The children journey the route taken by the traders and can handle the merchandise in a trader's cart. Refreshments will be served.

Donations are currently being sought for refreshments, toys for children, supplies and additional entertainment. Donations and support will be acknowledged in Press Releases and in a brochure that will be handed out on March 3. The Center for Jewish History and Yeshiva University Museum are non-profit institutions with 501C3 status. Mark Your Calendar For Scott's Race
This year's Scott's Race, in memory of Captain Scott LaPiedra, will be held on Sunday, April 21st. The race committee is working on a memorial for our 343 fallen brothers of 9/11. They would like to have one runner representing each lost firefighter, who would also take part in a pre-race ceremony. It will be nice to see participation by each affected firehouse if possible. Should you have any concerns, please contact Firefighter Bob (Engine 28) Alverson at 718-720-8158, or at the CSU Staten Island Unit 718-815-4111.

Central Labor Council Seeking Your Community Board Help
The Central Labor Council (CLC) is in the process of developing a Labor/Community Board political action network. Many issues of concern are affected by decisions made at the community board level and we need to pay more attention to the work of these boards. They meet monthly and work on issues such as land use, City budget, and many other pertinent issues. Brian McLaughlin's CLC is trying to develop a database of union members who participate on community boards. Contact the UFA for more information.
