The fire started in the walls of the first floor at 2:15 p.m., and spread up to the second and third floor, as well as the building's basement. Limon Restaurant, which serves Turkish cuisine, a Laundromat, and several apartments were affected by smoke. Both the businesses and residents of the sixteen apartments above were all evacuated.
The fire was under control by 3:50 p.m. A fire marshal said that the cause has not been determined yet.
Four firefighters suffered minor injuries, and were taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. No one else was hurt.
The fire stayed within the walls, and no visible signs of the fire could be seen outside.
