Service Marks 10 Years Since Deadly "Fathers Day Fire"

NY 1 - June 18, 2011

A mass service was held this morning for three city firefighters who were killed while battling a Queens fire 10 years ago.

The service was held at St. Sebastian's Church in Woodside, Queens.

On June 17th, 2001, firefighters Harry Ford, Brian Fahey and John Downing were fighting a small fire at a hardware store in Astoria when combustible materials in the basement exploded.

All three men were killed, leaving behind eight children between them.

Investigators later said the fire was an accident, and started after some teenagers spilled gasoline, which was ignited by a water heater.
