No Manning Reductions in January

After a meeting with Mayor Bloomberg Monday afternoon to discuss the Fire Department budget, the unfavorable court ruling and other issues, he has agreed not to implement the manning reductions in January, but has reserved the right to revisit the issue in the future. Firefighter sick leave percentages have been decreasing recently, and if this trend continues, the Mayor has indicated he will refrain from making these manning reductions. Steve Cassidy has agreed to meet with the Chief of the Department to discuss the current sick leave situation.

This has been a difficult year for all of our members. So many meaningful and significant milestones have passed. While we’ll always deeply miss our lost brothers and continue to support their families, it is our hope that in 2003 we will continue moving forward on our paths toward rebuilding our lives and this Department.

On behalf of the entire UFA Executive Board, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for all of your unwavering support and untiring efforts to make your union a stronger and more effective union. We wish you and your families all the best things for the Holiday Season and a safe and fulfilling New Year.
