Protest on Feb. 25th: Last Chance to Oppose Major Award

Flyers were previously faxed to all firehouses last week announcing that a peaceful demonstration will take place on Tuesday, February 25th, 4pm at The New School, 66 West 12th Street in NYC, protesting William Langewiesche's book "American Ground", which claims that FDNY members “looted before the towers fell” and “mistreated human remains at Ground Zero”. Several nominated authors, which may include Langewiesche, will later appear at this location to read excerpts from their books. It is our last chance to attempt to get his book pulled from nomination for the prestigious 2002 “National Book Critics Circle Award”, which will be announced the next day.

The book is reported on several best selling lists and is also being used in schools. If you cannot attend on Tuesday, please visit www.wtclivinghistory.org, where you can sign a petition form and send a protest letter on the false content of this book to the publisher; Ferrar, Straus and Giroux, and editorial director Becky Saletan. If you have any questions about this event, please call 212-925-8812 or 917-379-4250.
