Battalion Delegate Meeting re Next Contract / Major Issues
The next Battalion Advisory Committee meeting will take place in the next few weeks at the UFA office to discuss a variety of major issues affecting the membership. Survey your delegates and members prior to attending. If you cannot attend for some extremely important reason, try to send the next most knowledgeable / reliable Delegate from your battalion. There will be no meeting excusal time granted.

On Duty Physical Therapy while on Light Duty
Pursuant to UFA request, the Department has confirmed to the UFA that members assigned to light duty who work the administrative chart 8-hour or 10-hour tours will be permitted to attend physical therapy during their working hours.

Portal Pay for 60 Day Details
Probies assigned to 60-day details to another company are entitled to portal-to-portal pay for the trip to the detail and again for the return trip at the end of 60 days. Please insure your officer gives you the appropriate TPR code mark each time.

Tiller Differential TPR Code
The 2000 -- 2002 collective bargaining agreement now entitles members who drive the Tiller the same pay differential that is given to Chauffeurs. TPR Code 1590 shall be used for members driving the Tiller. Members who have driven the Tiller since May 1, 2002 shall fill out a payroll inquiry listing the dates and tours that they are entitled to the pay differential and give to the Company Officer. Captains in affected units must verify all inquiries prior to forwarding.

New Privacy Rules Re Spouse Access to Your Health Info
Due to new federal privacy standards under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that take affect this month, members wishing to give their spouses permission to access their personal information regarding health and medical claims must now fill out a waiver or designation form. It must be in writing and signed by the member. Without a waiver, spouses will be denied information when they call the UFA Security Benefits Fund (SBF). The waiver form must be kept on file in the SBF. Please insure you read the special HIPAA info package that was mailed to each member’s home which explains HIPAA in more detail. You may call the SBF for the waiver form. It will also be made available shortly on the UFA website under Security Benefits Fund.

Info Required for Getting Events Published on 65-2
The below info is required to be submitted to the Recording Secretary’s office in order to have your event accurately posted. Submit at least 30 days prior to the event, 45 to 60 days is recommended. Late submissions may prevent publishing on time.

  • Event name (& unit sponsoring it), and description of activity
  • date(s), time, location, cost
  • contact info to post, if appropriate (name, telephone #, address, directions, web, email,...)
  • Contact name & info for UFA to call to verify info (please note if this info is NOT for posting)

Mail or e-mail info to 652@UFANYC.org, or fax to 212-683-4359. Then make a quick call to verify it was received.

Queens Trustee Steps Aside
Queens Trustee Tom DaParma is resigning his position in June for personal reasons. Please read his message to the membership which is on the cover of the April Firelines issue. Over the past five years, the last few of which were the most difficult of times, Tom has served with pride, conviction and caring attention to his duties. His excellent service to the board and membership will surely be missed. We wish all the best to Tom and his family.

New Hyperbaric Chamber for EMS Hospital List
65-2 #25, April 10, 2003 contained a chart that lists hospitals with specialized emergency treatment capabilities for FDNY members injured Line-of-Duty. The Hyperbaric Chamber at Brookdale Hospital was left off the list. The updated chart is published below. Please place an ‘H’ next to Brookdale Hospital on the prior chart or photocopy and tape the below chart up in all FDNY vehicles for quick reference.

Arthritis Walk For A Cure
The Arthritis Foundation has invited interested FDNY members to participate in the annual Arthritis Walk For A Cure, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2003 at 10AM at historic battery Park in Manhattan. The event raises funds and awareness that will help the prevention and cure of arthritis, America’s leading cause of disability. Two FDNY Members Win Golden Gloves Tournament!
Congratulations to FF Francesca Smith of L18 for winning the 125 lb. Woman’s Title and FF Tom Cadotte L170 for winning the Heavyweight Novice Title in the New York Golden Gloves. This is a first for the FDNY Boxing Team with two championships in the same tournament. A tip of the helmet to the team for their hard work and dedication and to the coaches, Bobby McGuire, Eddie Brown, Dennis Crowe and Manny Fernandez.

Exciting 8-day Scholarship & Travel for FDNY Children
The American Management Association & Operation Enterprise are offering an 8 day residential program (held at major universities) for high school (ages 16-18) and college students. The program topics include management, strategic planning, leadership, negotiations and presentation skills. Students practice and participate in management simulations. Local sightseeing trips round out the program. College age students are eligible for 3 college credits. There are four full scholarships available for the children of firefighters killed on 9/11. Q104.3FM Free Concert to Keep NYC’s Firehouses Open
Q104.3FM (WAXQ) will be sponsoring a free concert to benefit ‘Keep NYC’s Firehouses Open’ on May 21, 7:00pm at BB King’s Blues Club on 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. The concert will star Paul Rodgers of Bad Company. There will be a silent auction of rock memorabilia and a raffle at the concert. Lt. John Clancy Memorial Scholarships
The Lt. John Clancy Memorial Golf Outing Fund will award four individual $1000 scholarships (randomly selected) to college bound children of firefighters and officers on the evening of the 7th annual Lt. John Clancy Memorial Golf Outing, which will be held on May 29, 2003 at the Mill Pond Golf Course in Medford, NY. To be eligible, members must submit the name of the student and FDNY parent, member’s work unit & student’s proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university. The cost for the outing is $160 per person and it includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, free beer all day and a 3 hour premium bar during the reception. Tee or hole sponsorships are $100. Support FDNY Memorial at World Police & Fire Games
A 50/50 Raffle and letter was previously distributed to all firehouses by the FDNY Volleyball team, which lost two members on 9-11. The team is sponsoring a “Tribute & Thank You” exhibit at The Games this summer in Barcelona, Spain, which will be hosted by FDNY members. Hundreds of FDNY athletes participate in The Games semi-annually, along with over 10,000 members from departments around the world. It is the perfect opportunity for remembering our fallen brothers, and for saying thanks for all the support our international fraternal brothers and sisters have given us in our time of need. $100 per raffle.
