Events, Help, Fundraisers & Benefits: New UFA Manning Agreement A detailed description of the NewUFAManning Agreement, which prevents the Dept. from reducing the number of 5-man engines from 60 down to 11, is contained in 65-2 #36, which was faxed to all firehouses on June 4th, is on theUFAwebsite, and is attached to this 65-2 that was sent via U.S. Mail. Please insure you read this important information. Safe Response After Company Closings Due to firehouse closings, more companies will be responding from farther away. Please remember to operate as safely as you possibly can--and never forget--don't get injured speeding to an alarm. Follow all Department procedures when responding. You are unable to help others if you are involved in an accident. Slow down. We didn't start the fire, but when we get there we will put it out. STAY SAFE! Back To Top Nominations for Queens Trustee As announced in 65-2 #35 on May 22, the nominations for special election to the office of Queens Trustee will be made during the General Membership Meeting on June 12. The winner takes office immediately upon completion of the certified ballot count. Back To Top Is Your Address Correct? (ballots for Queens Trustee) Any Queens member wishing to vote in the Queens Trustee election, must insure your home address on record with the UFA Security Benefit Fund (SBF) is current. A quick way to verify: if you haven’t been receiving the Firelines every two months, then your address needs updating. Prepare an ‘SBF Change of Address Form’ and mail to the UFA, Attn: SBF. Forms can be obtained from your Delegate, or call the UFA SBF at 212-683-4723. Please do so immediately, as the election takes place in June. Back To Top Cornell Workplace Study Begin The Cornell University Traumatic Stress, Workplace Conditions and Well-being Study is now being conducted in the field. In order to improve firehouse conditions, training, equipment, management and the overall health and safety of our membership, we need concrete data detailing the inadequacies in the FDNY. If your company has been chosen, we need 100% participation in order for us to ensure that it will be an effective tool for both us and you. Back To Top Media Contact Numbers The public doesn’t always know about all the good work FDNY members do each day. The best way is to inform the media before your rescue becomes yesterday’s missed news. The following chart is provided by the UFA PR Director Tom Butler so members may notify the media directly of any fires, rescues or resuscitations that it might be interested in covering. Please copy and post for quick reference. Your participation is always an important element of the UFA public awareness campaign. | NEWS PAPERS | | NY Times Daily News NY Post Associated Press Staten Island Advance Newsday El Diario Noticiasdel Mundo The NY Sun | 212-556-1533 212-210-1500 212-930-8500 212-621-1670 718-981-1234 718-575-2550 212-807-4725 718-786-4343 212-406-2000 | | NEWS RADIO | | WINS-AM WCBS-AM | 212-315-7090 212-975-2127 | | LOCAL TELEVISION | | NY 1 WCBS-TV WNBC-TV WNYW-TV (FOX) WABC-TV WPIX-TV WWOR-TV News 12 (Bronx only) RNN Telemundo(Ch 47) | 212-379-3456 212-975-5867 212-664-2731 212-452-3800 212-456-3173 212-210-2411 201-330-2215 718-861-6800 212-481-5588 201-288-5408 | 40 Years Celebration for FF Tony Catapano Help celebrate Tony’s 40 years of dedicated service to the FDNY. Back To Top Adopt-A-Firehouse Requests Your Presence Adopt-A-Firehouse has donated over $500,000 worth of merchandise to over 100 FDNY firehouses since before9-11-01. In April 2001, while working with FDNY members on the film ‘These Men of Conscience’, Carol Ann Francis was shocked at how run down firehouse furnishings were. In response, she founded Adopt-A-Firehouse and personally contacted numerous major retailers & manufacturers, getting them to donate leather sofas & recliners, chairs, gym equipment, dishwashers, washer & dryers, air conditioners, copy machines, mattresses, linens, towels, cutlery and much more. Carol is hosting an event to keep the Adopt-A-Firehouse program going, and to honor FDNY members, as a group, for their wonderful deeds over many years of service. Your presence is requested to be honored, as the sponsors of Adopt-A-Firehouse would love the opportunity to meet some of our members who have benefitted from their contributions. The evening will begin with the 60 minute (non 9-11) film about FDNY firefighters (‘These Men of Conscience’) who share their deeper thoughts & values on being a firefighter, followed by the “The Men of Conscience Honors Ceremonyâ€( FDNY members and others will be honored), and concluded with a reception serving wine, fine food, and deserts. This event takes place on June 17th at Loews Cineplex 34th St. (bet 8th & 9th Ave) commencing at 6:30pm with seating for the film starting shortly after arrival. 100 seats have been reserved for FDNY members (RSVP REQUIRED). RSVP Carol Ann ASAP at (212) 965-9282. The UFA encourages a good turnout, especially from the firehouses that Carol Ann has helped, so she may let the sponsors know that we appreciate their generosity--and desire keeping the Adopt-A-Firehouse program going!!!
